Description

Time: 5 – 7 hours

Course Availability: By Appointment ONLY

This course is designed for individuals who already own and operate Night
Vision Goggles (NVGs), but are not yet proficient in moving, shooting, driving, and generally
functioning in restrictive and open environments with the fluidity required of seasoned NVG users.
The aim is to bridge the gap between basic NVG usage and operating with the same confidence and
ease as a professional who spends extended periods working under night vision. By the end of the
course, participants will gain comfort and confidence to engage in various tasks under NVGs with
competence, mental sharpness, and muscle memory, all under the guidance of experienced
instructors.

The course emphasizes foundational skills that transform an individual from a basic NVG user to
someone who can confidently perform night operations. This is achieved through focused practice
on a number of tasks, honing proficiency in essential areas like spatial awareness, dexterity, and
distance estimation under low-light conditions.
Key skills covered include:

• Manual Dexterity for NVG Usage in Darkness: Learning to operate equipment with precision while using NVGs, including tasks like handling tools or weapons.
• Spatial Awareness of Your Gear: This includes understanding the positioning of your NVG device on your helmet, avoiding obstacles like door frames, and adjusting to various environments without breaking your gear.
• Distance Estimation: Gaining the ability to judge distances accurately under NVGs for critical tasks, such as shooting or picking locks in low light.
• Splitting Your Duals: The skill of multitasking under NVGs, such as using an IRIS system to run a radio while signaling with hands, I.R. Device or visual cue, all without using white light.
• Effective Use of IR Lighting: Understanding when to use helmet-mounted vs. onboard infrared lights, and how to adapt based on the situation.
• Practical Applications: The tasks covered will not only familiarize students with everyday NVG tasks but will also ensure that they can execute them competently, even in demanding or unfamiliar conditions. By simulating real-world environments, students will refine their muscle memory and mental agility, essential for operating under nods, while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Upon completion, students will have demonstrated their ability to comfortably and competently
handle NVG tasks, ranging from basic operations to more complex actions like shooting and using
specialized equipment in the dark. This experience will allow them to approach future night
operations with greater confidence and proficiency.
